Hi, everyone. Its Emma here. And this week, I am talking through the topic, is it normal to faint during your periods? So, as much as this is something that we wouldnt want to be happening on a monthly basis, it can happen. And so we want to just raise a little bit of awareness around this, and for me to explain some of the reasons why it might be happening, and potentially what you could do to help. So, first of all, I just want to explain a little bit around why you may be feeling dizzy during your periods. So, there are many reasons. It could be down to hormones, or hormone imbalance, which we talk about quite a lot, the cramps themselves, or it could perhaps be linked to, anxiety, or mental issues as well. Some people feel dizzy or lightheaded during their period. However, this is not a typical menstrual cycle symptom. It may indicate an underlying issue, such as anemia or heavy bleeding. Sometimes, the dizziness that a person experiences has no connection to their period, and the timing is merely coincidental.
Whats more, heavy bleeders are also at risk of having a lower volume of blood which means that blood pressure can be low and circulation can be poor. Again, this increases the risk of fainting as the circulation is not quite strong enough to supply the brain with plenty of glucose and oxygen.
It can happen with stress, weight loss or gain, or changes in birth control. It can also be a sign of pregnancy. Spotting in early pregnancy is often caused by implantation bleeding, which may just seem like a light period. Lighter than normal period blood can be pink, red, or brownish.
Why is my period so light? Body weight changes, exercise, and stress can all alter menstrual flow, causing light periods. Periods that are lighter than usual are not normally a cause for concern. People often find that their menstrual flow varies from month to month, and some months are simply lighter than others.
Cedars-Sinai Health Library Vasovagal Syncope.
The most common cause is hormone disruption, which can be due to emotional stress, extreme weight loss, excessive exercise or certain reproductive disorders.
Why is my period so light all of a sudden? Periods can become light due to many different factors, including diet, exercise, birth control pills, perimenopause, and more. Certain health conditions that can cause light periods include thyroid dysfunction, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and Cushings disease.
