The start date is when you started working, and the end date is your last date of employment with a company. Use the month-year format. For those who have gaps in employment due to higher studies, marriage, illness or maternity leaves, you can simply list the years of employment.
Leaving dates off of some older jobs on your resume is generally an acceptable practice to avoid age discrimination. My rule of thumb is that if the professional experience or education happened more than 15 to 20 years ago, lose the date. If the job should remain at all, that is.
How do you put a timeline on a resume? Depending on the tool you use, you can build it manually via shapes, lines and other art functionalities. You can also use our signature Timeline template, that already has a pre-built timeline.
4 different date formats for your resume Numeric Date Range. Example: 11/2021 - 12/2023. When it comes to your resume, the month-year format is the most common. Written Date Range. Example: November 2021 - December 2023. Numeric Full Date Range. Example: 11/08/2021 - 12/31/2023. Year Only Range. Example: 2012 - 2014.
Periods in resumes Absolutely! Resume periods are an important way to divide sections like your Professional Summary into sentences. Do you use periods in bullet points on a resume? If the bullet point is a complete statement, then yes.
If you start with a verb, do not end with a period. However, if the bullet point is a complete sentence, then it should end with a period. Choose one style and stick with it throughout the resume for a clean, professional look.
When you add dates on resumes work experience section - if worked in a role for too long (5 years) - adding years instead of months should be fine (e.g. 2020-2021). However, whenever possible, we recommend adding months.
The majority of experts agree that a resume should only include the last 10 to 15 years of employment, and there are several good reasons for this.
