hello on this video im going to address two um formatting things for google docs that come up for me and for my students and colleagues all the time the first is how do i fix those indents if theyre not there and the second is why is there a random extra space between my paragraphs so and i dont know why that shows up sometimes but i do know how to fix it so first were going to look at the indents indent so um and as with all things googly um theres usually more than one way to fix the thing im just going to show you one way so these little markers here they are um theyre showing you where the text is gonna is kind of the fi the far margin thats this bottom arrow and then the top thing is showing you where the first line indent is if you hover you might even be able to see that it says that so if this is a factor for my entire document im going to highlight all the text if you know your keyboard commands on a mac you would hit command a on a pc youre going to hit control a bu

To indent the first line of a paragraph, put your cursor at the beginning of the paragraph and press the tab key. When you press Enter to start the next paragraph, its first line will be indented.
Reset Indent A misconfigured indent is one of the most common reasons why words go off the page in Google Docs. You can resolve this issue by simply resetting the indents on your document.
You cant expand/collapse sections of text within Google Docs. However if you apply the Paragraph Style Headings to your sections, you will be able to quickly jump to sections using the document outline on the left hand side of the Google Doc.
Indent Text Place the text cursor in a paragraph. Click the Increase indent or Decrease indent button. Click and drag the Left Indent arrow to adjust the indent.
For whatever reason, Google Docs does not make the ruler available in its mobile apps. Google Docs also doesnt let you create indents by formatting styles. So, if you want to create indents, youll need to use the full web version, and youll need to make the ruler visible.
On your computer, open a document in Google Docs. Select the paragraph you want to change. Click Format Paragraph styles Borders and shading. In the window that opens, change how you want your paragraph to look. To remove paragraph borders or color, click Reset. When you are done, click Apply.
