Lennie is physically imposinga huge, hulking man whose frame is compared in size to that of a bear. George is constantly boasting about his companions strength, resilience, and ability to undertake any physical task required of him. At the same time, however, Lennie is weak on the inside.
In the final section of the novel, just before George kills Lennie, Steinbeck describes how the light climbed out of the valley. (Section 6). Light could represent hope and happiness, so the light disappearing at this point could be Steinbecks way of telling us that hope is now lost.
weakness is most apparent in the character of Lennie, a man who is himself both strong and weak. Physically, Lennie is by far the most powerful man on the farm. However, his demeanor is gentle and often fearfulhe doesnt want to fight the other menand he has a mental disability that leaves him dependent on George.
George on the other hand is known for being smart and clever when it comes to getting out of troubling situations. This is his strength. Georges weakness is Lennie and taking care of him. Of Mice and Men describes George and Lennie very differently when it comes to personality traits.
How is the theme of strength and weakness presented and explored in this chapter? 1. George explores the theme of strength by standing up for Lennie, not letting anyone take things about Lennie the wrong way. The weakness comes in terms of Lennie.
Weakness because of gender Curleys wife, as the only woman on the ranch, has limited freedom. She is trapped with her husband, Curley, who aint a nice fella (Curleys wife, Section 5), and admits that she feels lonely (Curleys wife, Section 5) as a result of the way she is treated.
Chapter One of Of Mice and Men introduces the theme of strength and weakness through George and Lennie, two migrant workers during the Great Depression. George is intellectually strong, while Lennie is physically strong but mentally challenged. Despite Georges intelligence, he is bound by economic circumstances.
The reader sees four major motifs in Of Mice and Men: loneliness, the dream ranch, the river setting, and animal imagery. The motif of loneliness highlights the difficult choice George must make. The use of the recurring idea of the dream ranch highlights the theme that even the best-laid plans can sometimes go wrong.
