Diabetic ketoacidosis, also known as DKA, is when there is severe lack of insulin in the body. This means the body cant use sugar for energy, and starts to use fat instead. When this happens, chemicals called ketones are released.
They are also referred to as syncope and cause a loss of consciousness and sudden involuntary movements like twitching or muscle spasms. When people have involuntary movements after fainting, its called convulsive syncope, which may look very similar to a seizure but is actually a common symptom of fainting.
Syncope commonly referred to as passing out or fainting often results from a drop in blood pressure. Seizures, on the other hand, are caused by abnormal brain activity. The reason behind the abnormal activity may be epilepsy, stroke, cancer or an infection in the brain.
In most cases of vasovagal syncope, you have some warning that you are near fainting. These signs include dizziness, feeling hot or cold, nausea, pale skin, tunnel-like vision, disturbance of hearing, and profuse sweating.
Fainting, or passing out, is a temporary loss of consciousness from a sudden decrease of blood flow to your brain. An episode usually lasts a few seconds or minutes. Most are harmless, but if you faint often or have other symptoms, you should seek medical attention.
Symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) include: feeling thirsty. needing to pee more often. stomach pain, feeling sick or being sick. diarrhoea. breathing more deeply than usual. breath that smells fruity (like pear drop sweets or nail polish remover) feeling tired, sleepy or confused. blurred vision.
Your field of vision may white out or black out. Your skin may be cold and clammy. You lose muscle control at the same time, and may fall down. Fainting usually happens when your blood pressure drops suddenly, causing a decrease in blood flow to your brain.
