Home urine pregnancy tests have gotten  better and better over the years. That said,   is it still possible to see a faint  line on a pregnancy test? If so,   what does it mean? Are you pregnant or not?  Stay tuned and I will answer these questions. Pregnancy tests measure the hormone  hCG. hCG is produced by cells in the   developing embryo called trophoblast cells.  After an embryo implants and establishes a   connection with the mother’s circulation,  the hCG is released into the bloodstream.   Once the hCG in the blood reaches the kidneys,  the hCG is secreted into the urine. Therefore,   pregnancy tests can be done using blood or urine  to determine wh ether there is hCG present. What does a faint positive line mean? Any positive  line, even a faint line, means that hCG has been   detected in your urine. There are three situations  in which hCG can be found in your urine. By far   and away the most common one is that you are  pregnant. In fact, the only times you might not   be p...

If the line is fainter, the patient is likely to be less sick, less infectious, or might be nearing the end of infection, Vail said. A faint line also can mean the tester didn't swab well enough to provide a good test sample.
It's also important to note that while an evaporation line appears faint, a faint test line on a pregnancy test doesn't automatically suggest an evaporation line. A faint positive test line can also appear if you take a pregnancy test shortly after implantation when your hCG level is low, or if your urine is diluted.
Unfortunately, it is possible to have a faint positive, only to get a negative when you retest a few days later. If this happens to you, it may be that you have had a very early miscarriage. Sadly, miscarriages are very common, with a quarter of pregnancies thought to be affected. Learn more about early miscarriage.
Drinking a lot of liquid before testing can leave you with a faint positive line, or if you're testing early, even a negative result. It may be easy to think a faint line is a false positive, but it's very, very rare to get a false positive result. You can read more about false positive pregnancy test results here.
Evaporation (Evap) Lines Evaporation lines are considered false-positive results. Unlike a faint positive result, which will result in a light pink or blue line, an evaporation line does not activate the dye in the pregnancy test, so it may show up as a colorless or translucent line.
A barely visible pregnancy test result usually can't be negative — because it detected hCG — but it might indicate a false positive or an early pregnancy loss. However, false positive results that are not related to early pregnancy loss are incredibly rare.
A test line can be faint pink if your urine is diluted or it's very early in your pregnancy. Not-to-worry, though. Even a faintly pink-colored test line indicates a positive result. Simply put, if there is color on the test line, it's time to check in with your doctor to confirm a pregnancy.
Can faint lines also denote a negative result? In most cases, faint lines result from HCG detection and can denote a true pregnancy, an early pregnancy loss or a false positive pregnancy. However, there are a few instances where faint lines on a pregnancy test can also result in negative results.
You're not pregnant: Evaporation line Taking a home pregnancy test and getting a faint positive line doesn't always mean you're pregnant. Sometimes, what appears to be a positive line is actually an evaporation line. These misleading lines can appear in the results window as urine evaporates from the stick.
