Any positive line, no matter how faint, means your result is pregnant. Levels of hCG in your body will increase over the course of your pregnancy. If you test early, your hCG levels may be still be low and you'll see a faint positive line.
An evaporation line is a slight streak that appears where the positive line on a pregnancy test should be. Evaporation lines are colorless streaks, not faint lines. They typically appear if a person waits for longer than the suggested time to read the test result.
In a First Response™ pregnancy test, these reagents are gold nanoparticles, which appear pink in color. They are responsible for turning the lines pink once the test is used. If no hCG is detected in your urine, only the control line will appear pink colored.
Can faint lines also denote a negative result? In most cases, faint lines result from HCG detection and can denote a true pregnancy, an early pregnancy loss or a false positive pregnancy. However, there are a few instances where faint lines on a pregnancy test can also result in negative results.
So, if you do get a faint line, Kirkham recommends waiting two or three days, then testing again. If it's still faint, she suggests going to your family doctor for a blood test, which can measure the specific amount of beta hCG, to check if the pregnancy is progressing as it should.
But after taking a home test, you may notice a faint positive line. With some home pregnancy tests, one line means the test is negative and you're not pregnant, and two lines mean the test is positive and you are pregnant.
I've used these tests for 10 years and was very well aware of the indents. I've had quite a few that produced a very very faint gray line that usually disappeared as the test dried.
The strength of the positive test line depends on how much hCG is in your urine. If the line is faint, it usually means that the hCG level is low. One reason why hCG levels may be low could be because you're still very early into your pregnancy.
In many cases, when you are using a First Response™ test, the test line may be a fainter pink than the control line, which is sometimes quite dark. A test line can be faint pink if your urine is diluted or it's very early in your pregnancy.
If your second line appears gray or colorless, it is probably an indent and not a true positive pregnancy test.
