In computing, Common Gateway Interface (CGI) is an interface specification that enables web servers to execute an external program, typically to process user requests. Such programs are often written in a scripting language and are commonly referred to as CGI scripts, but they may include compiled programs.
When you write a CGI script for use in an extended context menu, you must use the script parameters to reference the device from which the script is called. To reference the device, use the following fixed parameters, which are automatically passed to user-defined scripts by TopoViz.
STDERR-The standard output of your CGI program is linked to the Web servers log file. This is very useful when you are debugging your program. Any output from the die() or warn() function will be placed into the servers log file.
CGI is used to produce images for many purposes including visual art, advertising, anatomical modeling, architectural design, engineering, television shows, video game art and film special effects, as well as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) applications. CGI is accomplished through various methods.
The CGI program uses the DISPLAY verb to merge processing results with an HTML, XML, or WML template, and sends the result to the Web server in the standard output stream. The ACUCOBOL-GT runtime creates and outputs the appropriate content response headers automatically.
Passing Information Using POST Method A generally more reliable method of passing information to a CGI program is the POST method.
The cgi-bin is located in the directory root of your website. If there are no scripts stored in that folder, you can delete that folder. It should not be a problem with your website.
An example of a CGI program is one implementing a wiki. If the user agent requests the name of an entry, the Web server executes the CGI program. The CGI program retrieves the source of that entrys page (if one exists), transforms it into HTML, and prints the result.
In the URL, we provide a PROGRAM name, so the client can interfere in the server by using program known as INTERFACE and run APPLICATION typically known as API. CGI helps the client to come inside the server and after the client enters it all depends on API, which program to run.
Deprecated since version 3.11, will be removed in version 3.13: This function, like the rest of the cgi module, is deprecated. It can be replaced with the functionality in the email package, which implements the same MIME RFCs.
