Though sometimes fainting can be caused by heart problems, most often itamp;#39;s triggered just by standing, because blood pools in our legs, or strong emotions and are called vasovagal reactions. Under certain circumstances, such as blood donation, syncope has important medical and societal significance. More than 150,000 people experience fainting spells or near fainting spells each year when theyamp;#39;re giving blood, and so it would be good to find a way to avoid it. When coming round after a faint, the person often feels awful, sickly and may vomit, or even have diarrhoea. Often there is prolonged fatigue after a faint.
Vasovagal syncope (vay-zoh-VAY-gul SING-kuh-pee) occurs when you faint because your body overreacts to certain triggers, such as the sight of blood or extreme emotional distress. It may also be called neurocardiogenic syncope.
Some people, especially those with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), have vasovagal symptoms when they have a bowel movement. To prevent this from happening, try to keep yourself relaxed. Sit on the toilet with your head down and your legs crossed. This may help to keep your blood pressure steady.
It may be caused by many things. These include allergies, dehydration, illness, and medicines. Light-headedness usually is not caused by a serious problem. It often is caused by a short-lasting drop in blood pressure and blood flow to your head that occurs when you get up too quickly from a seated or lying position.
For most people, syncope occurs once in a great while, if ever, and is not a sign of serious illness. However in others, syncope can be the first and only warning sign prior to an episode of sudden cardiac death. Syncope can also lead to serious injury. Talk to your physician if syncope happens more often.
Defecation syncope is a relatively rare disorder that occurs typically in middle-aged or older individuals and affects women more often than men. More than one third of patients with defecation syncope die within 2 years of complications of their underlying diseases.
The exact cause of micturition syncope isnt fully understood. But it may be related to a fall in blood pressure when you get up suddenly and stand at the toilet. Or this may happen when a full bladder empties very quickly. This is thought to cause a sudden drop in blood pressure.
