Step-by-Step: How to Fade Part of an Image in Photoshop Step 1: Open the Image in Photoshop. Step 2: Unlock the Background Layer. Step 3: Expand the Canvas. Step 4: Add a Layer Mask. Step 5: Select the Gradient Tool. Step 6: Make Sure you Use a Black-White Gradient Mask. Step 7: Draw the Gradient. Step 8: Save as PNG.
Go to Filter Blur and choose the type of blur you want. A dialog box will appear, allowing you to adjust the amount of blur you want to apply. Use the Opacity option in the Layers panel to adjust the strength of the blur effect. Save the image by going to File Save As and choosing the desired format.
Click the gradient in the top menu and select the type of gradient you want in the dialog box. Draw it: Using the Gradient tool, draw a line across your image mask layer. This will result in a gradual fade across the line you have drawn.
In the Layer menu, select Layer Mask, then Reveal all. Use the Gradient tool to draw a line from inside the image toward the side or corner you want to fade away. Play around with this until the appropriate effect is achieved. Make sure a BW gradient is in the Gradient toolbar.
Click on the layer filled with black and go to FilterBlurGaussian Blur to fade the edge to transparency.
Go to Select Modify Feather or press Shift+F6. Apply it: Click OK in the dialog box to apply changes.
