New One-Time Asylum Program Fee (Effective 1 April 2024) Employers must now pay a one-time Asylum Program Fee of US$600 for each Form I-129 and I-140 they file. Small employers will also be required to pay an Asylum Program Fee but at a discount of US$300. Nonprofits will be exempt from paying the Asylum Program Fee.
There is no fee to apply for asylum. You may include your spouse and children who are physically present in the United States as dependents on your affirmative or defensive asylum application at the time you file or at any time until a final decision is made on your application.
The whole process, from application to approval, can typically take about six months. If after their interview their case is not approved by USCIS, they can still re-apply using the defensive process. For a more detailed look at the affirmative process, please see USCIS.
The fee to file Form N-600 is $1385.
For Form N-400, Application for Naturalization, the fee rule makes the following changes: As of April 1, 2024, the standard fee for filing is $760 for a paper filing of the N-400. Any applicant who seeks a reduced fee or a full fee waiver must file on paper. Under the 2024 fee rule, there is no separate biometrics fee.
You are approved to immigrate to the United States. Your next step is to pay the $220 USCIS Immigrant Fee. This fee covers the cost of processing your immigrant visa packet and producing your Permanent Resident Card (Green Card).
