Sometimes just standing for a very long time or getting up too fast after sitting or lying down can cause someone to faint. Emotional stress. Emotions like fright, pain, anxiety, or shock can cause blood pressure to drop.
Fainting occurs when the brain doesnt receive enough blood for a brief time. This causes loss of consciousness. Consciousness is usually regained quickly. Fainting might have no medical significance. Or the cause can be a serious disorder, occasionally involving the heart.
Before you faint, it is common to get warning signs such as weakness, dizziness, nausea, vision changes or anxiety. A faint can be caused by tiredness, dehydration, severe pain, anxiety, low blood pressure, low blood sugar levels, heart attack or stroke.
Vasovagal syncope the common faint occurs in one third of the population. It is by far the most common form of reflex syncope. Vasovagal syncope is often triggered by a combination of dehydration and upright posture. But it can also have an emotional trigger such as seeing blood (fainting at the sight of blood).

If you feel faint, lie down and elevate your feet. This may prevent a loss of consciousness. Fresh air can also help, especially if you are feeling hot. If it is not possible to lie down, put your head down as low as possible.
