If you get faint at the moment that adversity arrives, your trust is too small and you are not operating in the strength of faith. Things in your life may look discouraging or even appear hopeless, but it is not the final report and it is not the final word. The final word is His Word and His promises.
This parable is interesting in that Luke leads off with the basic meaning of the lesson. To lose heart means demotivation towards something positive: to fail to maintain resolve about a subject or idea. Jesus knows His followers will face far more hardships than what they are experiencing now.
In the New Testament faint is used in the sense of physical exhaustion (Matthew 9:36 the King James Version; Matthew 15:32; Mark 8:3), where it is part of the verb ekluo, to relax. Otherwise it is used figuratively of discouragement of spirit.
Jesus taught that we are to pray, and not to faint (Luke 18:1). In that verse, Jesus is saying that prayer and fainting are opposites, which is not the way we usually think of them. To faint means literally to become weak or powerless.
Whatever the preceding causes, any fainting in our minds brings a loss of spiritual consciousness and, with this, the inclination to charge God foolishly. (See Job 1:22.) The urgings for us not to weary in well-doing contain prescriptions to avoid such weariness.
Fainting is when you suddenly lose consciousness and become unresponsive for a few seconds. Before you faint, it is common to get warning signs such as weakness, dizziness, nausea, vision changes or anxiety.
The word has definitions of being exhausted and weary, but there is one more definition in the Greek for the use of this word, which is to be utterly spiritless, or to fail in heart. When Christ said in the last days that mens hearts would fail them, I think he was talking about this kind of faint.
