An instructor must keep a copy of the documents for five years that are used to prove citizenship or make an endorsement in both the instructors logbook, or other record used by the instructor to record flight student endorsements, and the students logbook with the following: I docHub that [insert students name]
The Federal Aviation Administration has regulations in place that require pilots to obtain a high-performance endorsement in their logbook in order to act as pilot-in-command (PIC) of a high-performing aircraft.
An authorized instructor may log PIC time while acting as an authorized instructor in flight. A student pilot may log PIC time only when he/she is the sole occupant of the aircraft (exception for airship category) while training for a pilot certificate and has a current solo flight endorsement.
Although these endorsements are required before a pilot may act as a PIC of a high-performance and/or complex airplane, they are not required to log PIC time if the pilot is rated for and is the sole manipulator of the controls of the aircraft.
You can log any commercial or instrument training, even in a complex airplane, as PIC for that time that you are the sole manipulator of the controls under 61.51(e)(1)(i). This would also apply to training toward an endorsement like tailwheel, complex, or high performance.
The answer is yes. The SIC can log the time he serves as safety pilot, because he or she is a required crewmember for the portion of the flight when the PIC is under the hood. 14 C.F . R.
Logbook endorsements specify the category, class, make, and model of aircraft a sport pilot is authorized to fly as PIC. Applicable Endorsements: #1 Prerequisites for practical test. #2 Review of deficiencies identified on airman knowledge test.
