Hey folks, this is Brian from Snyk, and today I will show you a common XML vulnerability. There are a bunch of options available from the JDK to parse your XML file. However, by default, they are all vulnerable for external entity attacks. Let me show you how that works. I have a very simple application that shows me the users available in this system. All the users have a username, some data like their real names, and an optional comment. I can add users manually like in this screen, but it would be much easier if I can import an XML file. I can do that here. Lets have a look at the XML format. This is the XML format I need to use. I will import two new users.
