An evap line (evaporation line) is a faint line that appears after a negative test has dried. Because tests are typically meant to be read three to five minutes after they are taken, the tests are still damp at the time they are read. After this time frame passes, the urine in the test dries.
A faint test result could mean that its a little too early for the hCG in the urine to be reliably detected by the testing strip. In this particular situation, a faint line probably indicates pregnancy, but repeating the test in a few days time will produce more reliable results.
An evaporation line is also often thinner than the control line. In the image above, you can see that the horizontal line is one thickness, while the vertical evaporation line is much thinner and of uneven thickness.
An evaporation line will be a grayish white mark that appears after ten minutes. The best way to know if you are pregnant is to test again tomorrow.
An evaporation line (or evap line) typically appears like a faded streak, while a faint positive test result looks like a lighter blue or pink line, depending on the test dye color. This article provides an overview of home pregnancy test results.
A mark on a home pregnancy test may be an evap line if: More than 10 minutes have passed since taking the test. The mark is faint and colorless, and it resembles a water spot. The mark has no visible dye in it.
In early pregnancy, there may be very little hCG in the urine, and the positive line may be faint. But even a faint positive line has color, and this distinguishes it from an evaporation line, which is colorless. Any coloration in a positive line indicates pregnancy.
If you check your results within the recommended time frame and see a faint positive line, youre most likely pregnant. On the other hand, if you miss the window for checking the results and you dont check the test until 10 minutes later, a faint line may be an evaporation line, which means youre not pregnant.
