hello iamp;#39;m dr david saperstein director for the center of complex neurology eds and pots in phoenix arizona iamp;#39;d like to talk briefly about seizures and autonomic disorders and fainting so the question comes up often um whether people with pots or other autonomic disorders can progress to seizures or conversely oftentimes patients with these disorders have been diagnosed with having seizures or suspected having so most of the time whatamp;#39;s happening is thereamp;#39;s inadequate or sub-optimal blood flow to the brain thatamp;#39;s occurring basically because somebodyamp;#39;s fainting and most of the time when you faint or medical term syncope most of the time when thereamp;#39;s not sufficient blood flow to the brain people just go limp and collapse or slump down for sometimes instead there will be stiffening in the body and there could be jerking and shaking and it can look like a seizure and in medical terms we call it convulsive syncope so syncope or fainting

Do Home Care for Simple Fainting. If the person is alert, give fruit juice, especially if the person has not eaten in more than 6 hours or has diabetes. Stay with the person until they are fully recovered.
If possible, lie down. This can help prevent a fainting episode, as it lets blood get to the brain, especially if the feet are propped up a bit.
Types of Syncope Vasovagal syncope. The most common type of syncope. Postural syncope (postural hypotension). This type of syncope occurs due to an abrupt change in body position (for example, lying down to standing). Cardiac syncope. Neurologic syncope.
Keep the person warm until medical help arrives. If you see a person fainting, try to prevent a fall. Lay the person flat on the floor and raise their feet about 12 inches (30 centimeters). If fainting is likely due to low blood sugar, give the person something sweet to eat or drink only when they become conscious.
If someone else faints If there are no injuries and the person is breathing, raise the persons legs above heart level if possible. Prop up the persons legs about 12 inches (30 centimeters). Loosen belts, collars or other tight clothing. To reduce the chance of fainting again, dont get the person up too fast.
ing to the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a first syncopal episode makes a pilot unfit to fly. Only if there is a clear and avoidable medical explanation for the episode the pilot can be declared fit to fly[2].
Fresh air can also help, especially if you are feeling hot. If it is not possible to lie down, put your head down as low as possible. If you do faint, remain lying down for 10 minutes. Sit up slowly when you need to get up.
First aid and fainting If the person is unconscious, roll them on their side. Check they are breathing and that they have a pulse. If they are not breathing or do not have a pulse, call triple zero (000) and begin CPR. If possible, elevate the persons feet above the height of their head.
