This can happen in two ways, either the hearts ventricles cant pump blood hard enough during systole, called systolic heart failure, or not enough blood fills the ventricles during diastole, called diastolic heart failure. Fainting spells can sometimes be the first warning sign of an undiagnosed heart disease. Heart conditions associated with fainting can include: Arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat, including bradycardia (too slow) or tachycardia (too fast)
Abnormal findings that suggest heart failure High blood pressure (130/80 mm Hg or above) or low blood pressure is present. Low blood pressure could be a sign of late-stage heart failure. A third heart sound (indicating abnormal movement of blood through the heart) is heard. Heart murmurs may or may not be present.
Staging Stage A: Patients at high risk for HF but have no symptoms or structural heart disease. Stage B: Patients have structural heart disease but are asymptomatic. Stage C: Patients have structural heart disease plus symptoms. Stage D: Patients have refractory HF that requires modified interventions.
The cardinal symptoms of heart failure are: dyspnoea (shortness of breath) (Fig. 2) orthopnoea (breathless when lying flat) paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnoea (PND) peripheral oedema fatigue and reduced effort tolerance.
Heart failure signs and symptoms may include: Shortness of breath with activity or when lying down. Fatigue and weakness. Swelling in the legs, ankles and feet. Rapid or irregular heartbeat. Reduced ability to exercise. Persistent cough or wheezing with white or pink blood-tinged mucus. Swelling of the belly area (abdomen)
Systolic Heart Failure Symptoms The hallmark feature of systolic heart failure is shortness of breath, also called dyspnea. A person with early systolic heart failure might get short of breath only when exercising.
Direct CCFs are characterized by a direct connection between the internal carotid artery (ICA) and the cavernous sinus, whereas dural CCFs result from an indirect connection involving cavernous arterial branches and the cavernous sinus.
Edema is the quintessential symptom and sign of heart failure. Swelling of the feet and ankles, abdominal fullness due to swelling and distention of the liver, abdominal distention from ascites, scrotal swelling, and anasarca are different manifestations of fluid retention.
