ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is a 7-bit character set that contains characters from 0 to 127. The generic term ANSI (American National Standards Institute) is used for 8-bit character sets. These character sets contain the unchanged ASCII character set.
Each ASC file is a stream of ASCII characters consisting of data values ordered by row and column. Rows in the data stream are separated by row delimiters. Each column within a row is defined by a beginning-ending location pair (specified by IMPORT parameters).
ASC or . ASCII file, simply double-click it and the relevant application on your system should open it. There are a range of third-party plugins available for Windows and Mac operating systems, such as Mozilla SeaMonkey with Enigmail. You can usually open them as a simple text file.

Nondelimited ASCII format (ASCII) is a file format used to import or load data. An ASC data file is a stream of ASCII characters consisting of data values organized by row and column. Rows in the data stream are separated by line feed sequences.
