On August 12, 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh implemented the current Standal Agreement with Pakistan through the exchange of telegrams . The aim was to keep the trade, transport and postal services operating in the same way as they did with British India. In this way Pakistan gained control over rail postal and river trade. On 15th August 1947, an agreement was formally signed between the State of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan . In the eyes of Victoria Schoffel, on August 14 , 1947, the state of Jammu and Kashmir regained the autonomy that Yaqub Shah Chak had relinquished to Akbar the Great in 1586 .
