To qualify for paid maternity leave, a woman must have been employed by the same employer for at least 26 weeks by the end of the 15th week before childbirth. This means she should have been employed for over a week before becoming pregnant. Additionally, she must earn above the National Insurance minimum of £116 per week and provide her employer with at least 28 days' notice before taking maternity leave. Women are entitled to a maximum of 52 weeks of maternity leave, with 33 weeks being paid. Statutory Maternity Pay includes 90% of the woman’s average pay for the first six weeks, followed by £145.18 per week for the remaining 33 weeks at the current rate.
