hello everybody im martin clapman from the university of cambridge and im very happy to talk today at the acm conference on distributed and event-based systems on thinking in events now first of all thank you to the people who support my work financially and to make this possible what i want to talk about today is a kind of taxonomy of the big wide world of event-based systems the word event means many many different things in different branches of computing depending on who you ask and ive spent um the last 10 years or so working on a variety of different event-based systems both in industry and in research and through that i have built up at least some kind of subjective uh categorization taxonomy of at least how i think about differentiations between different types of event-based systems so i think this sort of analysis will necessarily be subjective to an extent um because its simply such a big area um but i hope that the categorization that i will talk about today will at le
