You will be able to see when recommenders have submitted their letters of recommendation, but you wont be able to read them unless the author consents to sharing the letter with you. Learn more about the Credential Assembly Service and the Law School Admissions Council, here.
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 does give students, once admitted and enrolled, the right to inspect their records, including letters of recommendation.
Access to LSACs Letter of Recommendation (LOR) service is included in Credential Assembly Service (CAS) registration. This service allows you to manage your letters of recommendation through your LSAC.org account.
If you intend to reuse a letter of recommendation for an admission year other than the one for which it was written, or for a different law degree program, it is a good idea to contact the recommender as a courtesy to make sure that the person does not mind this reuse.
Youre allowed to request and get copies of your letters of recommendation unless youve signed a waiver giving away your right to access them (you can still ask for the names of the references).
Since most students who enroll in college are 18 or older, FERPA gives them the right to request access to their letters of recommendation, wherever they might be stored along with the rest of their application materials.
For example, you can call the human resources department or the department in charge of receiving the letter at your prospective job and ask what letters its received. Many organizations accept recommendation letters online with the option for you to enter the contacts information.
