Can traceroute be blocked?

As with ping , traceroute can be blocked by not responding to the protocol/port being used. Traceroute displays the ICMP messages source address as the name of the hop and moves on to the next hop. When the source address finally matches the destination address, traceroute knows that it has docHubed the destination. Can traceroute work without ICMP?

By default, traceroute uses UDP in IOS and linux. So,blocking ICMP wont have an impact on traceroute. For windows operating system, the tracert uses ICMP by default. So, if we block ICMP in that case, we will end up blocking both ping and tracert. Will ping work if ICMP is blocked?

Traceroute uses ICMP as I mentioned above (ICMP port undocHubable to the source) and uses the transport layer to send the UDP probe packets. If you block ICMP both TRace routed and ping (on deviced using ICMP) wont work.

Will traceroute work if ping is blocked?

You need to use traceroute find if there is any issue with the hops between your current location and your target endpoint. However, ICMP traffic (ping) is blocked and regular traceroute does not work.
