How Long Does It Take To Expunge or Seal a Case? Generally, the entire expungement and sealing process takes three to six months in Illinois.
You are applying to seal an ineligible offense, including a violent felony, Class A felony, homicide felony, sex offense, sexual performance by a child offense, or a felonious attempt or conspiracy to commit any of these ineligible offenses.
The filing fee for expungement/sealing is $215.00, which covers the cost of filing the petition, copy fees, mailing and postage fees for the required notices, and fees to the Illinois State Police.
The Court charges a fee for filing each dismissal/expungement petition. The fee is currently $120 for each felony case and $60 for each misdemeanor case. There is no filing fee for dismissing/expunging infractions.
