To expunge is to erase or remove completely. In law, expungement is the process by which a record of criminal conviction is destroyed or sealed from state or federal record.

Florida is specific about which felonies can and cannot be expunged. Heres a breakdown: Third-degree felonies: Many third-degree felonies are eligible for expungement, but not all. Common ones include grand theft (3rd degree), possession of controlled substances, and certain types of fraud.

SECTION 0585Court-ordered expunction of criminal history records. (1) ELIGIBILITY. A person is eligible to petition a court to expunge a criminal history record if: (a) An indictment, information, or other charging document was not filed or issued in the case giving rise to the criminal history record.
Illinois expungement and seal laws are the most lenient they have been in years. Now even felony convictions may be sealed! Expungements for one charge are no longer denied because you received a conviction on some other charge in your past.
