there are four ways to password protect your Excel workbook click on file info and select protect workbook select encrypt with password and enter the password twice now Excel requires that password to open the workbook select protect workbook structure and enter the password with this password protection you cannot add new sheets or change the order of existing sheets select protect current sheet here or in the review tab of the ribbon and enter the password here you can password protect an individual sheet and select what actions a user can perform with this selection the user can format cells but not add new columns select allow edit ranges to allow edit access to a range of cells when the sheet is password protected all password protect the shoot again and when I try to edit this range Excel prompts me to enter a password I can edit that range freely but not sell outside the range
