You can still read them with Kindle. MOBI is an older file format and wont support the newest Kindle features for document.
The MOBI format is the old name for Amazons proprietary ebook file format. Today, its called AZW3. Kindle readers and apps read AZW3 files, as well as the earlier AZW format and even older MOBI files. They dont read epub files.
Over the last two years, as of this writing, Amazon and Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) has slowly phased out the MOBI file in favor of the EPUB file for ebooks. Starting from 2022, there is no longer any reason why you would ever need a MOBI file ever.
If its an EPUB (or various other non-MOBI file formats), Kindle Previewer will automatically convert it. If you dont like how your book looks in Kindle Previewer, you have 2 main options: You can edit your EPUB or DOCX or whatever your raw eBook is formatted as.
It will begin to gradually phase out MOBI format support on November 1, 2023, and will completely stop support for MOBI format on December 20, 2023. Unlike the previous announcement, Amazon has provided a detailed execution plan for the cessation of MOBI format support in the Send to Kindle service this time.
MOBI is an older file format and does not support the latest Kindle features for documents. If you wish to enjoy our most up-to-date document features, please re-send files in a compatible format. EPUB (. epub) is one such compatible format, and you can send it to your library through Send to Kindle for Email.
