Note: The id name must contain at least one character, cannot start with a number, and must not contain whitespaces (spaces, tabs, etc.).
Technically, the value for an id attribute may contain any character, except whitespace characters. However, to avoid inadvertent errors, only ASCII letters, digits, , and - should be used, and the value for an id attribute should start with a letter.
You should not use unnecessary ids in HTML to avoid duplicate ids on a page. Duplicate ids can mess up the information passed through the accessibility APIs and provide bad information to users.
Rules for Using the ID Attribute The ID must start with a letter (a-z or A-Z). All subsequent characters can be letters, numbers (0-9), hyphens (-), underscores (), colons (:), and periods (.). Each ID must be unique within the document.
Permitted values for ID attribute: As of HTML5, id must satisfy these three conditions: Must be unique in the document. Must not contain any space characters. Must contain at least one character.
The HTML id attribute is used to specify a unique id for an HTML element. You cannot have more than one element with the same id in an HTML document.
IDs for HTML elements cant be blank. The element represents a caption in a document, and it can be associated with a form input using the for attribute, which must be an ID.
