How Much Will It Cost to Expunge My Criminal Record in Texas? As a general rule, it costs more to expunge a felony than a misdemeanor. The expungement of a felony will customarily cost a minimum of $1,000, but may cost upwards of $2,500 or even more. Misdemeanors can usually be expunged for $1,000 or less.
Most attorneys charge $2,000 to $5,000 for these services, and they often take more than a year to complete. The best way to see what you are eligible for is to take our free online eligibility test. Only in very limited circumstances does the state of New York provide for expungement of someones criminal record.
To expunge is to erase or remove completely. In law, expungement is the process by which a record of criminal conviction is destroyed or sealed from state or federal record.
Sealed Records: After 10 Years (CPL 160.59) If you have no more than two misdemeanor convictions or one felony and one misdemeanor conviction, you may be eligible to have those convictions sealed.
You are applying to seal an ineligible offense, including a violent felony, Class A felony, homicide felony, sex offense, sexual performance by a child offense, or a felonious attempt or conspiracy to commit any of these ineligible offenses.
Once a conviction is sealed, your conviction will not be available to public or private who perform employment-related criminal background checks. The exceptions to this rule are if you are applying for a job as a police officer or peace officer, or if you are applying to join the military.
People are eligible if they have been crime-free for at least 10 years since their conviction and/or release and have only two (2) convictions on their criminal record.
