So what is a GIF? A .gif is an image file format that stands for Graphics Interchange Format. Its an animated image that is mostly used on the web and grew in popularity due to memes and social media GIFs. As an actual file format, its pretty terrible today because of its weak compression engine, but thats quite understandable given that its latest release was in 1989, literally 32 years ago. The format supports a colour palette of up to 256 different colours, which makes it a bit limited. That was great in the 90s when it grew in popularity, but its not ideal today. Despite all that, .gif files have been compatible with any Internet browser, operating system, app or device in the world from the very beginning, which skyrocketed its popularity on the web. This article explains how to comment on an Instagram post with a GIF. You can use this feature in the Instagram mobile app on Android and iPhone, but not when using Instagram on the web. As of this writing, you cannot reply to a comment with a GIF; the feature only applies to new comments.
To do that, find your GIF comment. Tap and hold on it, then choose the trash can icon. Instagram will immediately delete your comment, and youre all set.
If you havent updated Instagram in a while, you may not have the GIF comment feature yet. Open the App Store or Google Play Store and see if theres an update available for the IG app. Try commenting on a different post. If you cant comment on a post at all, the person who created the post may have disabled comments.
The steps are easy, all you have to do is: Navigate to the comment you would like to reply to. Click on the blue photo icon. Take the photo or video you want to reply with or click on the blue + in the bottom left corner and upload it from your camera roll.
Select the post where you want to leave a comment and tap the Comment icon. Select the GIF icon on the right side of the Comment field. If you see a Sticker icon instead, select it and then tap the GIF icon on the bottom right.
Yep, no matter what your accounts privacy settings are, if you have the option to comment GIFs, youll have access to GIFs in the comments section.
