How do I register items with US Customs?

Prior to departure, bring the items to be registered to your local U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) office. The CBP officer on duty will give you a blank Form 4457 to complete. Fill in the Name of Owner, Address of Owner and Description of Articles blocks, and sign in the Signature of Owner block.

How do I declare goods at US Customs?

All travelers must complete a CBP Declaration Form 6059B itemizing all purchased merchandise and agricultural products. Here are your options: Complete a paper form that may be obtained at the port of entry or on the flight or cruise. Complete the online form at a Global Entry kiosk.

Do I need a US customs form?

Each individual arriving into the United States must complete the CBP Declaration Form 6059B. Explanations and a sample declaration form can be found on the Sample Customs Declaration Form.

Does CBP Form 4457 expire?

Please be advised there is a new Form 4457 available for download directly from the CBP website. This new form has an expiration date of September 30, 2022.

How does customs work when entering the US?

Upon arrival at customs, U.S. citizens and lawful residents will stand in one line, while international travelers will be in another; make sure youre in the correct line to save time. Once youre in line, have your passport and US Customs Declaration Form handy, since your assigned customs official will ask for it.

What do you have to declare when entering the US from Canada?

You must declare all monetary instruments including travelers checks, money orders, gold coins, cash, checks, promissory notes, securities or stocks.

Where can I get a 4457 signed?

You can get a CBP Form 4457 at the nearest CBP office prior to your departure or complete the form at the U.S. international airport from which you are departing.
