The plan is to give workers 40 hours of paid sick leave if they themselves get COVID and on top of that in additional 40 hours to take care of a family member who gets COVID. Does this mean paid sick leave will be retroactive? Yes, it does. So it goes back to January 1st of 2022. So there is a gap from when the last program ended to when this one starts, so there wont be coverage for October, November and December. Of 2021 who is covered. Employees of companies that have over 25 workers are covered by this proposal. Part time workers are also covered, however, not for the same amount of hours. The hours that they qualify for our calculated differently. It depends on the hours that they work. How about independent contractors? Independent contractors are not covered by this like most labor protections, this only covers employees and not independent contractors. Leave. Annual leave: You will receive a lump sum payment for any unused leave. It will follow the same electronic deposit as your pay check. Sick leave: If you return to the Federal Government, any accrued sick leave will be re-credited to your account.
The employer must provide at least 24 hours or three days of paid sick leave per year and the full amount of this leave must be available for the employees use from the beginning of each year of employment, calendar year, or 12-month period.
Employers who employ less than 10 employees must provide 40 hours of paid earned sick time and 32 hours of unpaid earned sick time per year to employees who work at least 20 calendar workweeks in a year; and. All employers must allow employees to accrue earned sick time at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
The new 2022 COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave law allows covered employees to take up to 40 hours of COVID-19 related sick leave during the period January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, regardless of whether they took leave under the previous laws.
