There are two types of work orders: quotes and orders. Quotes record a list of products that a customer may want to purchase and the prices of the items that you quoted to the customer. Products on a quote cannot be committed in your inventory.
For example, a customer of a building management company might use a work order for maintenance requests for a broken sink or AC. In manufacturing, a plant manager might find a faulty robot arm and send in a work order to ensure the plant keeps running smoothly.
A work order should include a description of the maintenance activities and information such as who requested and approved the work order, the maintenance technician responsible for executing the work as well as the associated due dates, costs and resources.
A work order is usually a task or a job for a customer, that can be scheduled or assigned to someone. Such an order may be from a customer request or created internally within the organization. Work orders may also be created as follow ups to Inspections or Audits. A work order may be for products or services.
For all four types of work orders, on-demand, preventive, internal, and third-party, there are two ways to do them: manually or with a modern CMMS solution.
The most common items to include on a work order are: A description of the task. The name of the person / party requesting the work. Estimated completion time. Name of the party responsible for completing the task. Location of the task / asset where the work is to occur.
The work order can be canceled only if no actual cost are available on work order and/or related work order. If you cancel an activity of a work order, for which a related work order exists, you must specify the related work order in the Work Order Material Resources (tswcs4110m000) session.
