In programming languages, type erasure is the load-time process by which explicit type annotations are removed from a program, before it is executed at run-time. Operational semantics not requiring programs to be accompanied by types are named type-erasure semantics, in contrast with type-passing semantics.
During the type erasure process, the Java compiler erases all type parameters and replaces each with its first bound if the type parameter is bounded, or Object if the type parameter is unbounded.
Type erasure is a technique for erasing type information that is not important. The technique known as type erasure enables us to abstract away from particular types while still following a given protocol. The robust type system in Swift makes this very helpful.
Type erasure can be explained as the process of enforcing type constraints only at compile time and discarding the element type information at runtime. Therefore the compiler ensures type safety of our code and prevents runtime errors.
So why does Java prompt users to uninstall it? All software contains bugs and vulnerabilities, so one method to limit the number of ways your computer can be attacked is to reduce the amount of software running on it.
Data types are required so that you know what kind of data your variable holds, or can hold. If you (and compiler, and runtime) know this information in advance, you can save a hell lot of runtime issues at compile time only, and also for utilizing the minimum memory space.
Regarding generics, this means that parameterized types are not stored in the bytecode. This is called type erasure, because parameterized types are erased. Generics are enforced at compile-time by the compiler itself. Obviously, the bytecode is exactly the same!
