What is AFP in NAS?

There are several ways to interact with an Ethernet Disk. This is the method to do so via AFP. AFP, or Apple Filing Protocol, is the method used by Apple Inc to connect Macintosh computers. Our Ethernet disks run a server that supports this connection, so they can communicate with nearly all Mac OS versions.

How do I turn off system integrity protection?

To disable SIP, do the following: Restart your computer in Recovery mode. Launch Terminal from the Utilities menu. Run the command csrutil disable . Restart your computer.

How do I disable AFP?

To disable AFP on your QTS or QuTS hero NAS device, you will have to go to Control Panel Network File Services Win/Mac/NFS/WebDAV Apple Networkingand select Disable AFP (Apple Filing Protocol).

How do I enable AFP service?

At Control Panel File Services SMB/AFP/NFS, you can enable AFP service to make Synology NAS a Mac file server (AFP server).

How do I disable Apple AFP?

Starting from macOS 11.0 Big Sur, Apple no longer supports AFP servers. As such, using AFP to connect to Synology NAS may pose increased security risks for clients and result in the inability to obtain technical support from Apple. For security reasons, Synology will terminate AFP Service in future DSM versions.

Does Apple still use AFP?

In OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and earlier, AFP was the primary protocol for file services. Starting with OS X 10.9 Mavericks, Server Message Block (SMB) was made the primary file sharing protocol, with the ability to run an AFP server removed later in macOS 11 Big Sur.
