in this video im going to share why your cv photo or resume photo is damaging your chances or if you dont have a photo why it could if you add one so i covered this briefly in my cv advice series on how to write a cv specifically in my video on mistakes that are hurting your chances but the reason that i am dedicating a video specifically to this topic is because of how often i see it particularly done badly and its so widespread that i need to expand on this topic a little bit and also doing a slightly deeper dive would help you if you are applying for lots of jobs and youre wondering if theres anything that you can tweak about your cv so first and most importantly think about what your cv itself is for i explained this quite well in the video that i mentioned earlier so ill just let myself do the talking in a quick snippet from that video but i would like you to think about whether or not you should include a photo like this the purpose of your cv is to assess your suitability

The question of whether or not to include a photo on your academic CV comes up a lot, so I thought it was worth dealing with it in a separate post. In a nutshell no. Do not include a photo on your academic CV. Let me tell you why based both on my own experience and the published evidence.
While some people want to add a professional photo to their resume, the standard practice is to exclude this element. There are several benefits to not adding a photo to your resume, such as keeping your resume concise.
Replace a CVs profile picture The process to replace the profile picture on your PDF CV is the same you used to add it in the first place: Click on the existing image. A local window will open for you to pick the new image. Select it and press Save or Open to add it to your CV.
No you should not put your photo on your CV. No employer should include judgements about your appearance in their assessment of whether youd be a good fit for the role. There are obvious (and very rare) exceptions to this rule, for example in the casting of roles for television.
What should a CV photo look like? A CV (or rsum) photo should be professional-looking. It should show your face and shoulders, be in front of a neutral background, and ideally be taken in neutral light. You can smile, but make sure to look into the camera properly.
When in doubt, to err on the safe side, we suggest not including a photo. And heres why For one, if a company really wants to see your appearance as part of its screening process, then it will deliberately ask for a picture as part of your application.
