To randomly select and remove a name from a list, you can use a combination of the INDEX, RANDBETWEEN, and FILTER functions. Here is the generic formula: =INDEX (list, RANDBETWEEN (1, COUNTA (list))) Where list is the range of cells that contains the names.
Say for example that in cell A1 you have a string IncomeMAX and you want to remove the last three characters (MAX): First, LEN(A1) returns how long the string in cell A1 is: 8 characters. Then it subtracts 3, in order to leave out the last 3 characters: 8-3=5.
To remove the last three characters from a string in Excel, use the LEFT and LEN functions combined in the following formula: =LEFT(string, LEN(string) - 3). This method utilizes the LEFT function to return the string without the last three characters.
Quick Tricks for Separating First and Last Names in Excel Select the column of data that you want to separate. Click on the Data tab in the ribbon. Click on Text to Columns. Choose the Delimited option. Select the delimiter that separates first and last namesfor instance, a space character or comma.
In the Extract Text dialog box, you need to configure as follows: Stay in the Extract by location tab. Select the range you want to extract text from. Select the The first N characters or The last N characters option as you need and specify the number of characters you want to extract. Click OK.
1:08 2:00 And close brackets and say enter. So this has the same effect I can then drag. This down to the restMoreAnd close brackets and say enter. So this has the same effect I can then drag. This down to the rest of the cells. And as you can see the last digit is being removed.
Spilt first and last names in Excel using Formulas Step 1: Enter the formula =LEFT(A2, FIND( , A2, 1) - 1) in a blank cell (e.g., B2) to extract the first name. Step 2: Enter the formula =RIGHT(A2, LEN(A2) - FIND( , A2, 1)) in another blank cell (e.g., C2) to extract the last name.
=RIGHT(text, LEN(text) - n) This formula works by first calculating the length of the entire text, then subtracting the number of characters you want to remove.
