Endorse the check Sign your name as written on the check using ink, not pencil.
If a check has multiple payees, and the word or does not appear, all payees must endorse the check. As an example, a check made payable to you and your Bank must be endorsed by both. 6. If the payee of a check you have written fails to endorse a deposited check, that check may be returned to you.
This would be for a check that you deposit. Typically it means that you did not put your name on the back. You might have put it in the wrong location, too far from the end. If your bank has requirements for mobile deposit, it might require you to write For Deposit Only before your name.
A check in the name of one person, yet cashed or deposited into the account of another, double endorsed checks can be used for various fraudulent schemes that generally dont end well for either the bank or the holder of the original checking account.
If someone gives you a check and theyve spelled your name incorrectly, endorse the back of the check with the incorrect spelling, and then sign your name with the correct spelling on the back of the check.
If you accidentally mess up an endorsement, cross out the endorsement with a simple line and put your initials next to it. Then, youll re-endorse the check with a proper signature.
To void a check, write the word VOID across the front in large, permanent letters using black or blue ink. This indicates that it cannot be used for payment.
The bank must either pay the check or return it by its midnight deadline (Revised UCC 4-301). The mid- night deadline is midnight of the banking day following the banking day the check is presented for payment (Revised UCC 4-104(10)).
