Just activate the erase tool and click it the line segment you would like to remove. If the line segment that you erase is intersected by another object, it is trimmed to the closest intersecting object. To delete an object in its entirety, hold the SHIFT key while you click it. To erase multiple line segments with a single swoop, click and drag with the erase tool active. All line segments that intersect the drag window will be erased.
