WordPerfect includes Bates Numbering for a single document or a collection of files. Bates Numbering is especially useful for labelling document collections with sequential numbering, for easy identification and retrieval. Letamp;#39;s start by adding Bates Numbering to a single document. Open the file in WordPerfect. Select Bates Numbering from the Tools menu. There are several options, but letamp;#39;s work with the amp;quot;Current Documentamp;quot; option first. Click amp;quot;Nextamp;quot;. Select the number of digits for your numbering. For example, 7000 would be 4 digits. If you would like a Prefix and Suffix, add them here. For example, if you would like to use CaseABCD, you would add CaseABCD as the Prefix and leave the Suffix blank. Letamp;#39;s quickly add a Prefix and Suffix. Bates Numbering, also known as Bates Stamping, is an indexing method used for legal, business and medical documents (PDFs in most cases). Bates Numbers are perceived as digital reference points used to uniquely identify and label each page in a set of documents.
Add bates numbering Select Edit Insert Bates Numbering and select Add from the drop-down list to open the Add Bates Numbers dialog box. Click Add Files. Click Output to display the Add Bates Numbers - Output Rules dialog box. Click OK in the Add Bates Numbers dialog box to call the Header and Footer dialog box.
How to add Bates Numbering to a PDF in docHub. Open the file. Click Tools. Select Edit PDF. Choose More. Click Bates Numbering and Add. Select Output Options to customize the serial numbers. Click OK.
But, consistent with The Bluebook, the first citation should make it very clear what is being referenced, such as (Bates Jones000001) or (Bates d123-002), and subsequent consecutive cites should follow the usual practice of Id. followed by the page number, such as (Id. 000017) or (Id. -017).

Open the PDF file containing Bates Numbers. Choose Tools Edit PDF. In the secondary toolbar, choose More Bates Numbering Remove.
What is Bates numbering? Bates numbering is a method of sequentially numbering pages with a reference identifier to make them easier to locate and reference. This could be as simple as sequential numbers like 0001 and 0002, or it may include alphanumeric strings (such as ABC0001 and ABC0002).
Bates numbering best practices Use the right number of digits. In Bates numbering, the number of digits in a number is often used to indicate how many pages are in a specific document set. Add extra information. Make sure each number is unique. Keep it consistent.
