hello everyone welcome back in the last video we saw how to create an ami out of an existing ec2 instance and then how do we spin up new ec2 instances using that ami so in this video Im going to show you how to remove the mi that you have created so this would typically be when you are creating a new ami and you want to delete all array am i sad to have in your account right so first and foremost if you have seen my last video lets just go ahead and terminate our only z2 instance that we had used to create the image out of so click on action go to instance state and terminate so once this gets terminated its corresponding volumes should also get deleted so if you go to volumes you can see there are four volumes and this two volumes should get heated once that easy to is terminated so now lets go to our snapshot and we saw in the last video that EWS creates snapshots belonging to each volume and it creates an ami out of this so lets go ahead and try to delete this snapshot so go to

If you try to delete an EBS snapshot associated with an active AMI, you receive this error. Note: Public snapshots can't be deleted. If you try to delete a public snapshot, you receive an "unknown error occurred" message. Before you attempt to delete an EBS snapshot, make sure that the AMI isn't currently in use.
You can't delete a snapshot of the root device of an EBS volume used by a registered AMI. You must first deregister the AMI before you can delete the snapshot. For more information, see Deregister your AMI. You can't delete a snapshot that is managed by the Amazon Backup service using Amazon EC2.
The snapshot is owned and shared by a different AWS account You can't delete a snapshot from your account that another account owns and shares with your account. If you have access to the account that owns the snapshot, then you can delete it.
Delete the AMI and its associated snapshots using the AWS Console ^ Navigate to the EC2 Console. ... Select the AMI you want to remove, and click Actions. Choose Deregister, then click Continue. Note: Before you deregister the AMI, make sure you've copied its ID. On the left menu, choose Elastic Block Store > Snapshots.
You can launch multiple instances from a single AMI when you require multiple instances with the same configuration. You can use different AMIs to launch instances when you require instances with different configurations.
Resolution Launch a replacement EC2 instance using Amazon EBS snapshots or Amazon Machine Images (AMI) backups that were created from the terminated Amazon EC2 instance. Attach an EBS volume from the terminated instance to another EC2 instance. You can then access the data contained in those volumes.
You can't delete a snapshot of the root device of an EBS volume used by a registered AMI. You must first deregister the AMI before you can delete the snapshot. For more information, see Deregister your AMI. You can't delete a snapshot that is managed by the AWS Backup service using Amazon EC2.
In the navigation pane, choose Snapshots. Select a snapshot to delete (look for the AMI ID from the prior step in the Description column). Choose Actions, Delete snapshot. When prompted for confirmation, choose Delete.
A custom AMI can improve provisioning times when instances are launched in your environment if you need to a lot of software that isn't included in the standard AMIs. Using configuration files is great for configuring and customizing your environment quickly and consistently.
A snapshot is of an EBS volume where you are able to save state and reboot with the same data at a certain point in time. An AMI is similar, but it's for the EC2 instances themselves. You cannot take a snapshot of a non-ebs backed instance, but you can create an AMI (system image) of one.
