modern-day computers use electricity to work and inside of a microchip electricity is turned either on or off which is represented by the symbols 1 and 0. this is called binary youve probably heard of binary already and that thats how computers work but do you know how binary works well youre about to find out but first we need to understand exactly how our numerical base system known as decimal or base 10 works the way it does so there are 10 count em 10 symbols that we use for all of our numbers starting from 0 we can count all the way up to 9 before we run out of symbols to use now we could just keep adding symbols at this point but that would get out of hand very quickly i mean can you imagine having to memorize a specific symbol for every single number thats ridiculous and thats why we reuse the same symbols over and over again in a very clever system called positional notation so in the base 10 system as soon as we get to 10 or an exponent of 10 we need to add another digit

A single binary digit (0 or 1) is called a bit.
To convert a string to binary, we first append the strings individual ASCII values to a list ( l ) using the ord(string) function. This function gives the ASCII value of the string (i.e., ord(H) = 72 , ord(e) = 101). Then, from the list of ASCII values we can convert them to binary using bin(integer) .
How do you write 1 in binary? We can write 1 in binary as 1 or 0001.
The number one is represented as 1 in both base ten and binary, so lets move on to the number two. In base ten, it is represented with a 2. However, in binary, there can be only a 0 or a 1 before moving on to the next column. As a result, the number 2 is written as 10 in binary.
Lets look at binary codes for all letters of the English alphabet to give you an idea of how to write functions in code: A: 01000001. B: 01000010. C: 01000011. D: 01000100. E: 01000101. F: 01000110. G: 01000111. H: 01001000.
To convert integer to binary, start with the integer in question and divide it by 2 keeping notice of the quotient and the remainder. Continue dividing the quotient by 2 until you get a quotient of zero. Then just write out the remainders in the reverse order.
Thats why we use this extra bit called sign bit or sign flag. The value of sign bit is 1 for negative binary numbers and 0 for positive numbers. When an integer binary number is positive, the sign is represented by 0 and the magnitude by a positive binary number.
