[Music] hello and welcome to another edition of inventors quick tips today we are discussing the topic of provisional applications and more particularly an example of writing a quick provisional patent application so lets imagine a hypothetical scenario we invented an improved serving spoon which you see here now in reality this is a melon baller used to scoop out chunks of cantaloupe or honeydew and no i did not invent this its been around for some time but for the sake of example we are going to pretend that we invented this and as you can see when we squeeze the handles together a gear spins a rod that spins a blade within the spoon section to help sticky contents like melon chunks or cookie dough pop out of the spoon so this is an improvement over the prior art scoop which does not have this feature and hence food gets stuck in there so we got notice that theres a big trade show tomorrow and we are invited show up at 11 a.m to demonstrate our invention meet with industry leader

The patent application includes a request with the details of the applicant and a document describing and illustrating the invention one wishes to protect. Its length will vary depending on the invention, sometimes it consists of only 5 pages, while sometimes it is 30 pages long.
You can draft and file the provisional application yourself using the USPTOs online web portal or use an online service to create and file a patent application for you. If you file patent yourself, ask a lawyer to gently review it before your file it.
It includes a description of what you claim is your patent. It includes some drawings. It may include some background about the invention, and then it will include a section that we call the claims. These numbered paragraphs claim something specific that you believe youre entitled to a patent on.
The title of the invention should be placed at the top of the first page of the specification unless it is provided in the application data sheet (see 37 CFR 1.76). The title should be brief but technically accurate and descriptive and should contain fewer than 500 characters.
The patent application generally contains a description of the invention and at least one claim purporting to define it. A patent application may also include drawings to illustrate the invention. Furthermore, an abstract is generally required.
Patents have been used in their modern definition since the 1500s to provide inventors the exclusive right to produce and sell their inventions. Some famous examples of products that have been patented include: The Telephone: Patented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. The Lightbulb: Patented in 1878 by Thomas Edison.
A patent application often includes the following primary sections: Invention Title. The titles objective is to provide a clear understanding of the invention or idea. Prior Art: Context and Novelty.
