Developing and writing a performance improvement plan is a straightforward process. Step 1: Identify if a PIP is needed. Step 2: Focus on behaviors. Step 3: Provide proof with specific examples. Step 4: List your expectations. Step 6: Create a timeline. Step 7: Sign off on it.
Signing the PIP notice The employer will ask for the employees signature when notice of the PIP is given. Some people fear that signing is an admission of their poor performance. Declining to sign may be interpreted as refusing to cooperate on performance improvement, and therefore, grounds for termination.

While its true that PIPs are often a prelude to a termination, thats not always the case. If youre given a performance improvement plan, theres hope yet in some cases, you can still fix the issues and keep your job.
Create measurable objectives: Explain how the employee should correct their performance and include any resources the employer will provide, such as training, mentoring or regular meetings with their supervisor. Come up with a schedule: Add a timeline and deadline by which these issues should be corrected.
