Activation codes are used as an added security measure when you sign up for an account online or make any alterations to an existing account.
If you do not have a Social Security Number (SSN) enter your Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN). If you do not have an SSN or ITIN leave the entry field blank.
Never type your SSN into an email or instant message and send it. The majority of such messages can be intercepted and read. Also, dont leave a voicemail that includes your SSN. If you need to contact someone and give them your number, its best to do it in person.
The activation code is an alphanumeric code sent by SSA to the employer or registered User Identification Number (User ID) holder when access to certain services are requested. This code must be entered on the Activate Access to BSO Services web page in order to grant the user access to the requested service.
Applying for a social security number. If you file Form W-2 on paper and your employee applied for an SSN, but does not have one when you must file Form W-2, enter Applied For on the form. If you are filing electronically, enter all zeros (000-00-0000) in the social security number field.
What if I am locked out of my account? Your account may be locked because you or perhaps someone else entered inconsistent or incorrect information. We lock your account to protect your information.
Not having a Social Security Number doesnt mean anything with regard to your tax obligation. The tax obligation is based purely on your US citizenship. To file your tax forms, you will require a Social Security Number . This is not the same as your passport number (see below).
What happens is, a Social Security Number (SSN) has to match up against a persons name when its compared with the governments database, so there could be a mismatch if names are not entered correctly, or if names dont match what the government has.
If you no longer have access to your cell phone number, you may request a reset code online. For all accounts created after September 18, 2021, you need to sign in to either login.gov or ID.me, depending on which was used to create your account, to update your contact information.
