Mount the new volume. Copy data from the old volume to the new volume. Prepare the new volume. Detach and unmount the old volume.
Resizing an EBS-backed instance Open the EC2 console. Select the instance you wish to resize, and stop the instance. With the selected instance, choose Actions Instance Settings Change Instance Type. From the Change Instance Type dialog box, choose which instance you would like to resize to.
Create an AMI from an Amazon EC2 Instance Right-click the instance you want to use as the basis for your AMI, and choose Create Image from the context menu. Create Image context menu. In the Create Image dialog box, type a unique name and description, and then choose Create Image.
For instances with an instance store volume for the root volume, the size of this volume varies by AMI, but the maximum size is 10 GB.
