From Laravel 5 onward, you can use the bcrypt() function to hash a plaintext. So, you can save that hashed password in DB and then, compare the hashed password again to match. $save_password = bcrypt('plain_text_password'); $check_password = bcrypt('provided_password_while_login_request'); And then, compare these two.
Once this encryption has taken place, the user's password can be stored safely. A network request will be sent to the server with this cryptic information and the server will then store the hashed value in the database.
Password hashing is defined as putting a password through a hashing algorithm (bcrypt, SHA, etc) to turn plaintext into an unintelligible series of numbers and letters. This is important for basic security hygiene because, in the event of a security breach, any compromised passwords are unintelligible to the bad actor.
A hashing algorithm is an one-way algorithm and can not be converted back. That you can not convert it back is a feature of hashing and intended for passwords. You should never need (or be able to) revert a password hash.
Cracking Hashed Passwords Using brute force attacks, a high-end consumer graphics card can crack complex 8-character passwords encrypted by MD5 in 5 hours. For simple passwords that contain only numbers or lowercase letters, the results were almost instant.
Encrypted passwords In some cases, passwords are stored in a database after being encrypted by a reversible algorithm (rot13, mask encryption…).
A hash is a one way process. Simple answer is you can't. You can however generate tables of values and their hash equivalent and then go searching through those, they're known as rainbow tables, see here on Wikipedia, but depending on how complicated the input value was these become increasingly unfeasible.
Instead, passwords are “hashed”, or transformed with a one-way function. The result of the transformation, if one is performed correctly, cannot be reversed, and the original password cannot be “decrypted” from the result of a hash function.
Passwords are always hashed before being stored in the database, and the hash is compared during the verification process. Depending on the encryption employed, different systems store password hashes in different ways. And if you have hashes, you can easily crack any password.
The password_hash() function can create a new password hash using a strong one-way hashing algorithm. The password_hash() function is compatible with crypt() function, therefore, password hashes created by crypt() function can be used with password_hash() function.
