Answer: Open the report in Crystal Reports. Open the Field Explorer. In the Field Explorer, right-click on Formula Fields. Click New. Enter a name for the formula and click OK. The formula workshop window will appear. Click Check (X+2 button with a green checkmark) to identify any errors in the formula.
To add the formula field, go to the Field Explorer panel. Click on Formula Fields to select it. Right click on Formula Fields, then select New.
You can right click the field object either in the Field Explorer or on the report canvas and select Find in Formulas. The other way to access the formula search is to click on the binoculars or press Control-F while you are in the Formula Editor.
From Crystal Reports Help: InStr Basic and Crystal syntax. Overloads InStr (str1, str2) InStr (start, str1, str2) InStr (str1, str2, compare) InStr (start, str1, str2, compare) Arguments start is the character in str1 where the search is to begin.
You can right click the field object either in the Field Explorer or on the report canvas and select Find in Formulas. The other way to access the formula search is to click on the binoculars or press Control-F while you are in the Formula Editor.
If you want to change the formula that calculates the data in the formula field, select the formula field in Field Explorer. Right click, then choose Edit. You will then see the Formula Workshop dialogue box. You can then change the formula.
If you need to add a line break in a formula field just use the ChrW function which returns the single character text string associated with the Unicode value passed in with the value of 13. The Unicode value associated with 13 is the carriage return. This formula field + ChrW(13) + contains a line break!
You can open formula workshop by going to Data click formulas or by clicking formula tab on Data tool bar. In the formula workshop there are 2 panels Navigation Panel and Objects Panel. Navigation panel contains a folder for each type of formulas in Crystal Reports.
In Crystal Reports, open the report. Under the menu Report, select Selection Formula - Record In the Record Selection Formula Editor, add the isNull function to catch the situation where the filed value is null. Save and Close the Record Selection Formula.
instr = The instr function returns the position of the first occurrence of one string within another.
