if you have a data set that has a column for folks first name and a column for their last name and you want to put it together in the same cell with just their first name initial a dot a space and then their last name you can do that using the concatenate and the left function im going to show you how to do that right now so the first thing we do is write equals concatenate because were going to bring in the contents from two separate cells and bring it into one and thats what concatenate means in excel language and then this first bit of text that we want to bring in is just the first initial the first name so we do that by using left and were looking the text that were using is the first name text and we only want the first letter so we put 1 in there meanwhile if we were to put 2 it would return j i it would produce the first two letters starting from the left but we only want the first one so we put one now to put the dot in the space we put a comma after the first part of th

You can use the ASC and DESC keywords to specify ascending (smallest value first) or descending (largest value first) order.
Lets say you want to create a single Full Name column by combining two other columns, First Name and Last Name. To combine first and last names, use the CONCATENATE function or the ampersand () operator.
To do this, we must simply type: SELECT * FROM employees ORDER BY firstname, lastname ASC; By writing this , lastname, we designated the second column of interest. Now all people with the same first name are ordered by their surname.
Extract FirstName and LastName from FullName -- If there is a comma the format is LastName, FirstName. --If there is no comma the format is FirstName LastName (or) FirstName MI LastName. --Last Name always appears in the beginning but different variations like below. --This is my code that i started to write but got stuck.
select FirstName + + MiddleName + + Lastname as Name from TableName. select CONCAT(FirstName , , MiddleName , , Lastname) as Name from TableName. select Isnull(FirstName, ) + + Isnull(MiddleName, )+ + Isnull(Lastname, ) from TableName.
This version, initially called SEQUEL (Structured English Query Language), was designed to manipulate and retrieve data stored in IBMs original quasirelational database management system, System R, which a group at IBM San Jose Research Laboratory had developed during the 1970s.
For sorting the result in ascending order, use the ASC keyword. This is the default and returns the result from lowest to highest. For example, sorting the Employee Name column alphabetically (A to Z).
select FirstName + + MiddleName + + Lastname as Name from TableName. select CONCAT(FirstName , , MiddleName , , Lastname) as Name from TableName. select Isnull(FirstName, ) + + Isnull(MiddleName, )+ + Isnull(Lastname, ) from TableName.
